MIPS 2022 Data Validation and Audits (DVA) Starting in Nov
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is gearing up to conduct its annual Data Validation and Audits (DVAs) for MIPS eligible clinicians or groups. This exercise plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of reported results under the MIPS program. Here's what you need to know.
What are DVAs?
CMS has partnered with Guidehouse to carry out DVAs. These inspections are designed to verify the accuracy and completeness of data shared by MIPS participants.
Who will be contacted?
If you're selected for the MIPS DVA, you'll receive an email notification from Guidehouse at MIPS_DVA_Request@guidehouse.com. The email will be sent to the Security Official listed in your Health Care Quality Information Systems Access, Roles, and Profile (HARP) account. Hence, it's crucial to ensure that the contact information in your HARP system is up-to-date.
When will the audits start?
The MIPS participants selected for DVA will be notified between November 2023 and March 2024. There might also be additional ad hoc DVA work throughout 2024.
What happens next?
Once you receive the notification, you'll have 45 days to provide the requested information. The required documentation will consist of substantive, primary source documents like copies of claims, medical records of relevant patients, or other resources used in the data calculations for MIPS measures, objectives, and activities.
What if you fail to provide the requested information?
Failure to provide the requested information could result in a payment adjustment. Additionally, it could increase the likelihood of your selection for future DVAs. Remember, if you’re using a third-party for MIPS data submission, you are still responsible for ensuring that all requested audit documentation is provided in a complete and timely manner.
